Unvaccinated travelers still banned from crossing border with Mexico or Canada
While the United States will reopen its land borders to fully vaccinated visitors in November, the country will still ban travelers who are not properly injected with vaccines from entering the country. Passengers will be required to show proof of vaccinations, including a negative Covid test. The new requirements closely parallel new regulations on international air travel announced by the Department of Homeland Security on Sept. 20. While the new regulations will not be in effect until November, they tighten travel restrictions based on vaccination status and country of origin.
The Department of Homeland Security has extended its temporary Title 19 requirements for non-U.S. travelers. The government will now require them to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and require them to present proof of vaccination at the time of entry. The new rules will apply to non-essential travelers only. Lawful permanent residents and U.S. citizens will be exempted from the restrictions until January 2022.
